Many students have a unique story about why they came to VSU. What made you come to VSU?

Coming from such a big city like Atlanta, I wanted something different. I applied to five different schools in Georgia and was accepted to all five but knew that VSU was the school for me once I came to visit. The campus was absolutely beautiful, the way me and my family was treated by the staff was so much better than at the other schools, plus I loved how diverse it was. After that visit, I knew that VSU was the right university for me, and I was right.

What made you want to be so involved on campus?

My freshman year I wasn’t involved in any organizations and felt like I was missing out on so much. I love helping people and meeting new people so I decided to do just that by joining organizations. All the organizations I am a part of relates directly to helping others or helping myself grow into a better women. Being a part of such wonderful organizations has helped enhance my college experience as well as open doors for new opportunities.

Who is your role model?

I don’t just have one role model because there are so many people in my life that inspire me to be a good person. My role models are my aunt, my mother, and my god mother. All three of these women work hard and have all contributed to my life which has molded me into the person I am today. They are all strong, independent, and successful in their own ways and no matter what life throws them they find a way to overcome them with so much dignity and grace. They have all set great examples for me as a women and I strive to be like all three.

How does it feel being the reigning Miss Black and Gold representing the Mu Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.? What made you choose your platform?

It feels great and still unreal that I was chosen out of so many wonderful girls. Getting the opportunity to represent such great men and being acknowledged as Miss Black and Gold is an honor. My platform is Autism awareness and the reason I chose it is because it is a rising issue that is often overlooked. 1 in 68 kids are diagnosed with autism which is one of the fastest growing developmental disorders in the United States. Autism is so broad that people who you may talk to everyday could be autistic and you would not even know it because it doesn’t have a "look". The society that we live in today is so judgmental and often judge people for being different. Educating the people in my community, supporting families like my own who has kids with autism and bringing awareness are all things that I plan to continue doing to make a difference while I have my title as Miss Black and Gold.

If you could describe yourself in one word what would it be?

The word I would use to describe myself would be Passionate . In everything I do, I do it with my heart 100% in it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Ideally, in five years society says I should be in my career, own a home, be married, and have one or more kids but I'm sure that will not be reality. In five years, I see myself probably be in another country, working for a company that gives me the ability to make my own schedule so that I can travel and enjoy my life without feeling trapped in an office all day. Working with kids and probably not having a husband or kids of my own because of my unpredictable life. I never want to feel complacent and I like doing new things and in five years I'm sure my life will reflect that.

Make sure you guys continue to look out for what Ms. Wright has coming your way! She is definitely a powerful force on VSU's campus.
